I photographed this image looking down from Te Mata Peak and stayed well over an hour, watching how the fog rolled in towards the ranges while sunlight carved through it. The tree silhouettes thrown onto the mist in a slow, mesmerising play of light and shadow. For a while I put the camera away and simply watched. When I raised it for this frame, I already knew it would be a keeper.
